John Vairo, CTech – As a Senior Design Technician with over 30 years of experience in the civil engineering industry, John has a broad range of civil engineering experience including Project Management, Project Scheduling, Detailed Engineering Design, Human Resource Management and Corporate Management. His project involvement includes subdivisions, multifamily, commercial and industrial projects for private and municipal developments.

Will Bodnar, P.Eng., QEP – A project engineer with over 10 years of experience in civil engineering, Will has worked as a project engineer and project manager on a wide variety of land development and capital works projects. These include single family subdivisions, townhouse developments, commercial developments, institutional, and capital works utility upgrades for storm sewers, sanitary sewers, watermains, and roadworks. Will also has experience in project management, storm sewer, sanitary sewer, and watermain design, hydraulic analysis, and erosion and sediment control design.

Derek Rempel, P.Eng., QEP – Derek is registered as a Professional Engineer with Engineers and Geoscientists BC with experience in project management and detailed design of civil engineering projects in the Lower Mainland. He routinely prepares roadworks, watermain, drainage, stormwater management, sanitary sewer, grading, street lighting, and erosion & sediment control designs and manages projects from conception through construction. Derek manages projects of varying complexity including residential subdivisions, townhouses, hospitals, industrial facilities, and commercial properties as well as municipal capital works programs. Many of his projects include coordination with large project teams, including land developers, architects, structural engineers, geotechnical engineers, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, and land surveyors. In addition, Derek regularly liaises with municipal staff to obtain permits as well as third party utility agencies such as BC Hydro and Telus.

Gordon Yu, BCLS – Gordon is a British Columbia Land Surveyor with 20 years of local experience in all aspects of legal and construction surveying. Gordon’s vast technical experience working in both field and office settings had led to him to partnership and director position at HY Engineering Ltd. His primary responsibility is to oversee the company’s strata survey operations (HY and Associates Land Surveying Ltd.) with focus on preparation of legal, 3-dimensional air space, and strata plans.

Curtis Van Hove, BCLS – Curtis is a British Columbia Land Surveyor with experience in commercial, residential and mixed-use developments. Since joining H.Y. and Associates Land Survey Ltd. in 2015, he has worked as a crew chief, CAD technician, senior technologist, and project manager. This wide range of experience and roles has provided him a solid understanding of all aspect of Land Surveying. In his current role as Partner and BCLS, he is responsible for computations and preparation of topographic and legal survey plans, as well as project management.

Lori Joyce, CPT – Lori is a Certified Planning Technician with over 17 years of experience in urban and rural land development, and has completed numerous projects as both the Development Planner and the Project Manager. Lori is active in the Planning Services and Project Management of neighbourhood areas, infill projects, urban and rural residential subdivisions, land use density calculations, and property rezoning approvals.

Jay Lim, CPA, CGA – Jay brings more than 10 years of experience in financial and executive leadership to his role as Chief Financial Officer at H.Y. Engineering. Since joining the firm in 2017, Jay lead a number of business transformations, cost reduction initiatives and systems implementations and upgrades. Prior to joining H.Y. Engineering, Jay served as a Director of Finance for the private investment holding company where he was responsible for tax planning, restructuring within the group as well as the execution of strategic mergers and acquisitions. Jay also worked as senior associate at a mid-sized audit firm based in Vancouver and he specialized in providing accounting, assurance, tax and business advisory services to privately-held corporations and not-for-profit organizations. Jay holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from University of Victoria and he is a member of the Chartered Professional Accountants of British Columbia.
