Career Posting: Erosion and Sediment Control Designer/Inspector

H.Y. Engineering Ltd. has an immediate opening for a full time Erosion and Sediment Control (ESC) Designer/Inspector.

 This position will involve the design of ESC facilities for civil construction sites and the inspection of ESC installations at civil construction sites throughout the Lower Mainland. The successful candidate should be either a graduate in Environmental Protection Technology, Fish, Wildlife and Recreation, Environmental Engineering Technology or have suitable, directly applicable work and/or educational experience which will provide a strong base to expand upon.  Mentoring and additional training will be provided.  Preference will be given to candidates who are either Registered Biology Technologists or are eligible for membership with the College of Applied Biology.

The successful candidate should have:

an understanding of civil construction processes be comfortable on construction sites an ability to read civil construction drawings strong verbal and written skills ability to work independently with minimal supervision. strong computer skills including a sound working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook a class 5 drivers licence with a clean driving abstract an understanding of proper sampling methods for collecting lab samples for TSS and pH analysis knowledge of federal, municipal and local government ESC regulations completion of the ESCA BC certification course would be an asset

This position has the potential to develop into a more senior role including a more advanced inspection role.  This position will require some daytime Saturday and Sunday work during periods of high rainfall events.

Career Posting: Survey Assistant

H.Y. and Associates Land Surveying Ltd. in partnership with H.Y. Engineering Ltd., provides legal surveying and engineering services to the development sector. We are a progressive company of approximately 48 motivated staff members. We require additional personnel in our legal survey division to meet the needs of our clientele. We are presently accepting applications for a full-time Survey Assistant. Suitable candidates must have solid work ethics and understanding of the fundamental aspects of legal land surveying. Preference will be given to candidates with work experience in the Lower Mainland area.

Position requirements:

• Diploma from a recognized Institute of Technology in Geomatics studies or equivalent • Minimum 1 year legal surveying experience in the Lower Mainland • Desire for career advancement to become an instrument person • A good level of physical fitness and ability to cope with adverse weather • Ability to use various surveying instrumentation and hand tools • Ability to use or learn MicroSurvey Field Genius software • Must work well with other staff members in a team environment • Fluent in both oral and written English • A valid BC driver’s license with a clean record

The work will involve assisting instrument persons on topographic, subdivision, layout, and engineering surveys in the Lower Mainland area. This is a full-time salary position.
